This image was inspired by Elle’s Blue theme and also by a vintage

This image was inspired by Elle’s Blue theme and also by a vintage Lillian Bassman photograph that creative director Joe Zee discovered depicting a model in head-to-toe-couture submerged in water. In this image Drew Barrymore wears a Dolce & Gabbana silk dress with pink floral appliqués; the result is an arresting and amazingly crisp image that reflects both the actress’ quirkiness and fashion’s fairytale aspects--while reminding us of the beauty and poetry of water.

Harpers-Bazaar-Magazine-Cover-Sarah-Jessica-Parker
In Peter Lindbergh’s photograph of Sarah Jessica Parker for the March 2009 cover of Bazaar, the actress’s silvery gray organza Chanel dress picks up the early-morning light of daybreak on the Brooklyn Bridge. The color is in turn reflected in the Bazaar logo. This is a cover that perfectly captures the energy of Sarah Jessica in the city and the optimism of the new fashion season.

New-York-Look-Fashion-Magazine-Cover
Christopher Anderson’s photograph of models backstage at a fashion show for the fall 2008 cover of the semi-annual New York Look is documentary photography at its finest, using an arresting composition and bold color to create an image of abstract beauty that perfectly conveys the sensibility of the magazine. Look is less about the clothes themselves than about the fashion shows as phenomena. The image, candid and captured in-camera, yet looking like a piece of constructed art, was both a stunning photograph and a strikingly effective magazine cover.

New-York-Fashion-Magazine-Cover-Kate-Moss
New York managed to show Kate Moss as she’s never been seen before on its "Spring Fashion" cover. The completely unretouched photo by Bert Stern strips away the glamour and artifice of the typical fashion magazine cover to reveal an almost shockingly real—yet no less beautiful—Kate Moss. For those accustomed to seeing celebrities airbrushed almost beyond recognition, with no freckles, wrinkles, or body fat, this photo was bracing, original, captivating.

Check out the new Lady Gaga video below

Lady Gaga Releases Second Fashion Video For %E2%80%9CYo%C3%BC And I%E2%80%9D Lady Gaga Releases Second Fashion Video For “Yoü And I”
Lady Gaga is back with the release of the second fashion video for her latest single “Yoü and I”.
The short clip, known as “Haus of Ü ft. Bride,” debuted online Wednesday (9-14) and is the second in a series of six videos by Dutch design team Inez and Vinoodh. Each of the six films will spotlight one of Gaga’s fun characters from the original ‘You And I’ video – including her male alter ego, Jo Calderone.
Check out the new Lady Gaga video below!
Gaga touted the video release of “Bride” on Twitter Tuesday night:
Haus of Ü presents another Yoü and I FASHION FILM By. INEZ+VINOODH in 30 minutes! “THE BRIDE.”
Get ready little monsters! Its a good one!
In the black and white video, Gaga rubs her boobs with a metallic, robotic hand and wipes dirt all over her body. There’s a big hat, then this wig she tears off and, to top it off, a stupid black bar is stretched across the screen covering her breasts so we really cannot see anything. And then the robotic arm thing again. And hey, the song is pretty damn good!
I guess this is fashion-y, in a Lady Gaga sort of way. I applaud the cool simplicity of the video, but if there is a theme I am not getting it. It’s all very confusing.
Who is ready for the third installment?!
“You And I” is a track from Gaga’s recent album Born This Way. The first video in the “Yoü And I” series is called “Haus of U feat. Nymph.”

Passage of the dress will never be

Summer may be coming to a close, but that doesn't mean you've got to put away your favorite little white dress. Instead of packing it away with your swimsuits and cutoffs, try it this way tomorrow.

Barely a week after New York fashion week there’s already speculation that Fashion’s Night Out, the part shopping extravaganza, part charity event that kick starts NYFW every September won’t be returning next year.
Vogue, the mag that notoriously spearheaded the effort, says that it’s too much work to organize the event, which takes place during one of fashion’s busiest weeks of the year. Larger retailers who take part in FNO agree, saying they don’t generate enough revenue to cover the costs of participating in the event because people aren’t actually shopping during the night but looking for freebies and celeb sightings.
On the other hand, smaller boutiques and stores may benefit from the event and see an increase in business. For example, Ashley Turn, a boutique owner in NYC told the New York Post, “If the city sold a one-day permit (to serve drinks), I’d get one,” to keep FNO alive.
The evening is all in the name of fashion but if large retailers aren’t cashing in, then there really isn’t a point in continuing it, right?

Weather disasters retain costing USA billions this 2011

CHICAGO | Thu Sep 8, 2011 12:42am EDT
(Reuters) - Blizzards. Tornadoes. Floods. Record heat and drought, followed by wildfires.
The first eight months of 2011 have brought strange and destructive weather to the United States.
From the blizzard that dumped almost two feet of snow on Chicago, to killer tornadoes and heat waves in the south, to record flooding, to wildfires that have burned more than 1,000 homes in Texas in the last few days, Mother Nature has been in a vile and costly mood.
Climate experts point to global warming, meteorologists cite the influence of the La Nina weather phenomenon or natural variability and, in the case of tornadoes hitting populated areas, many simply call the death and destruction bad luck.
But given the variety and violence of both short-term weather events and longer-term effects like a Southwestern drought that has lasted years, more scientists say climate itself seems to be shifting and weather extremes will become more common.
"A warmer atmosphere has more energy to power storms. We've loaded the dice," said Jeff Masters, co-founder and director of meteorology for Weather Underground, Inc, speaking on Wednesday at a news conference on climate. "Years like 2011 may become the new normal in the United States in coming decades."
The year has been expensive, in terms of crops, property and lives lost. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration has kept track of the cost of weather disasters since 1980, and 2011 has seen 10 separate natural disasters with economic losses of $1 billion or more, according to Chris Vaccaro, spokesman for the National Weather Service.
The previous record was nine, set in 2008. The costs go ever higher, with the nine 2011 disasters even before Hurricane Irene two weeks ago costing $35 billion, Vaccaro said.
Other years have been more expensive overall due to single events, such as Hurricane Katrina in 2005. But 2011 has already moved into the top 25 percent of the costliest years, and the hurricane season isn't half over, Vaccaro said.
