Lady Gaga Prepares To Host Asia Tour, But May Be Stopped By Some Korean Christians

Lady Gaga Concert
South Korea's government has already bowed to public pressure and banned under-18s from attending the 26-year old's concert, but protesters gathered outside the venue said that was not enough.

"Some people can accept this as another culture but its impact is huge beyond art and debases religions. Even adults can't see her performance which is too homosexual and pornographic," said Yoon Jung-hoon, a reverend who organised the "Civilians Network against the Lady Gaga Concert".

The singer's hit song "Born This Way" celebrates the empowerment of gay men and women, something that many in South Korea, which is the second most Christian country in Asia after the Philippines, say is an immoral lifestyle.

Lady Gaga, whose real name is Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, has been in Seoul for close on a week as she kicks off her Asian "Born this Way" tour.

"Nervous for tonight. Hope I make little monsters happy and proud," she Tweeted a few hours before the concert kicked off.

Yoon's group claims to have collected 5,000 supporters on Facebook against the concert and some have also called for a boycott of the sponsor Hyundai Card. The protesters have also threatened a boycott of its parent company, Hyundai Motor Co, South Korea's largest car-maker.

"The Christian Council of Korea with 12 million Christians and 55,000 churches will take all kinds of measures such as boycotting Hyundai Card to root out this kind of obscene culture," the council said in a statement.

Yoon said he would attend the concert to "monitor" the performance for homosexual content that could corrupt young people. (Reporting by Ju-min Park; Editing by David Chance and Sanjeev Miglani)

What’s better than a summer full of Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones fighting aliens? Adding Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga to the mix for the third installment ofMen in Black!

According to reports, Will Smith, who plays Agent J, actually gave away the secret of Gaga’s cameo. At the time he said, "We have a few celebrity cameos, but I think I can not reveal who they are. We must keep as a surprise that Lady Gaga appears."

The excitement will be to see what sort of costume they will come up with for Gaga. The singer is notorious for her outlandish outfits, so it will be interesting to see what Sonnenfeld will come up with. What sort of aliens do you think Gaga and Justin will play?

While many celebrities have made cameos in “MiB” installments past (including Steven Spielberg, Danny DeVtio, Sylvester Stallone and Michael Jackson), Sonnenfeld said choosing stars to add to the blockbuster franchise can be tricky for longevity purposes.

“We’ve always had in ‘Men in Black’ headquarters, alien surveillance, so one of the joys is deciding who you would put up on the board, who you would tell the world are aliens,” he explained of how he picks celebrities for cameos. “And A) the challenge is you have to get permission from these celebrities and B) you don’t want to go with people that are either a flash in the pan, or political, or people that then in 10 years no one will know who you’re talking about.

“So the challenge is getting celebrities that are famous, will give you permission and won’t be like, ‘Who’s that guy?’ in 10 years,” he added.

Sonnenfeld did admit he has a secret weapon when it comes to getting stars to sign on – the popularity of franchise star Will Smith and his legions of famous friends.

“You know we don’t like to use that weapon too often,” Sonnenfeld told the website. “The hard part is really figuring out the combination of who won’t be ‘who’s that person’ in 10 years. But so far we’ve been pretty luck and people have been kind and interested. I am surprised that Lady Gaga said yes.”

When Lady Gaga launches her hotly anticipated “Born This Way Ball” world tour Friday on what is expected to be an elaborate castle-like stage, fans in Asia will be the first to see it.

The singer leads off her travels with sold-out shows from South Korea to Singapore in a striking upgrade of her Asia itinerary over a previous tour that included only Japan. Western pop stars are increasingly criss-crossing the upwardly mobile region in search of new markets while financial malaise continues to afflict parts of the West — and Asian fans are ecstatic.

“We’re getting so many concerts nowadays, it’s hard to decide which ones to go for!” said Mindy Chew, an information technology consultant in Malaysia who snapped up $120 seats to watch Lady Gaga’s show in neighboring Singapore within 30 minutes after tickets went on sale.

“Some of these shows are like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. I’m expecting lots of drama at Lady Gaga’s show, lots of costume changes,” said Chew, who has caught performances by Gwen Stefani and Michael Buble in recent years in Malaysia’s biggest city, Kuala Lumpur.
